Canon SLR 50th Anniversary

In May 1959 Canon introduced it's first SLR camera the Canonflex. This was Canon's first steps in the SLR business which would eventually result in the renowned EOS system. 50 years on, Canon is now the number 1 manufacture of SLR cameras and lenses.

During this period Canon have introduced several ground breaking products such as the AE-1 the first camera to feature a micro computer, EOS 650 the first EOS camera, EOS D30 the first digital SLR with a CMOS sensor, EOS-1DS first DSLR with a full frame sensor and 5D MK II the first SLR camera to allow full HD movie recording.

To celebrate Canon's 50th anniversary of producing SLR cameras, we have recreated some of Canon's most significant SLR cameras as special print out and make "Paper Craft" models.

Canon SLR 50th Anniversary

Canonflex

Announced in May 1959, the Canonflex was Canon's first SLR camera and was introduced with a series of Super-Canomatic lenses and featured a unique winding trigger at the bottom of the camera enabled quick film advance. Exposure metering was performed by a clip on external selenium exposure meter.

This landmark camera set the trend for Canon's high performance and innovation in SLR cameras.

Canon AE-1

Introduced in April 1976, the AE-1 was Canon's most successful SLR camera selling 4.8 million units world wide. The AE-1, was the first SLR camera to feature a microcomputer. This enabled the camera to be highly automated and made it possible to produce a low-cost camera having high-end features.

The innovative new concepts and processes developed for the AE-1 have now become the basis on which every new camera is designed.

EOS 5D Mark II

The Canon EOS 5D Mark II was launched in September 2008, as a replacement for the acclaimed EOS 5D. The EOS 5D Mark II features a 21.1-megapixel CMOS sensor ISO range expandable up to ISO 25600 equivalent and thanks to it's DIGIC 4 image processor, full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) video recording is possible the first for a digital SLR camera.

With the ability to shoot still and movies the EOS 5D Mark II extends the boundaries of photograph.
